Mental Health Awareness Week
As a school community we supported World Mental Health Awareness Week, as it was an important opportunity to promote wellbeing, encourage open conversations and highlight the importance of positive mental health.
To launch the week we welcomed Jay Crawford to DGGS. Jay, also known as Mr Focus, is an engaging speaker, educator and Director of MetaLect, with over 20 years of experience working with young people, schools and organisations across the UK. Having recently completed a PhD in Psychology and Theology, he combines academic expertise with a dynamic and relatable approach to help students build confidence, resilience, communication skills and self-belief. Jay has worked with
over 1,000 schools and is well known for delivering inspiring and impactful sessions that connect with students from all backgrounds.
He delivered bespoke mental health and personal development assemblies focusing on the following themes.
- Year 7 - Resilience and Belonging
- Year 8 - Peer Pressure and Social Anxiety
- Year 9 - Self-motivation and Identity
- Year 10 - Stress and Exam Pressure
- Year 12 - Confidence and Independence
The students thoroughly enjoyed these assemblies and we will share some student feedback next week.
Our newly appointed House Captains ran stalls during lunch time and they raised the following:
- Chartwell - £33.55
- Hever - £27.11
- Ightham - £71.90
- Knole - £14
- Leeds - £86.60
- Penshurst - £159.16
We also had a whole school assembly led by Mr Reid and some of our Year 12 students - focusing on strategies to support Mental Health.
On Friday to end the week we had Mind of the Student talks focusing on providing students with practical strategies.
