Student Leadership

Roles of Responsibility

Many of the opportunities offered at DGGS are designed to nurture student leaders.  From Year 7 students are given the opportunity to take an active role within the school community.  An important role is that of Form Captain, supporting the Form Tutor in registration, organising form events and attending meetings with the other Form Captains in their year group, their Head of Year and Mrs Pritchard every term.  Form Captains take along ideas and any queries and disseminate information back to form groups.  Sports Captains are responsible for organising the teams for Interhouse sports tournaments and Sports Day.  Every form also has a Philanthropic Representative who helps to collect money for the chosen class charity, and and a Diversity Representative who takes an active role in developing our school's diversity programme.

By the time students reach the Sixth Form the opportunities to lead within the school community are myriad.

Head Student Team (HST)

The Student Leadership Team in 2023-2024 consists of the two Head Students and the six House Captains. They are role models within our community and often represent the school at public functions and important school events.  The application and selection process is rigorous for these very popular positions.

School Prefects

Year 12 students have the opportunity to become a Subject Prefects. This provides an excellent opportunity for the development of leadership skills. Many of these students will go on to hold senior offices in Year 13, which could include being a Sports Captain, leading the Philanthropic Committee, running societies such as MEDICS or The Law Society and many more.

Meeting with the Headteacher

The Head Students, as well as Form Captains, meet regularly with Mrs Pritchard.  This affords them the opportunity to raise issues, share their opinions and have their voice heard by the Headteacher.
